Subway Development Cuts Fuel Consumption

TEHRAN Oct 14 (Shana)--Development of subway network in big cities is forecasted to slash gasoline consumption by 680 million liters a year, the chairman of Board of Directors of Iran Fuel Conservation Organization said.

Mohammad-Mehdi Rahmati said Petroleum Ministry is submitting a proposal to the government’s Economic Council for significant reduction in the gasoline consumption by 2023.
He said the plan involves the cities of Tehran, Mashhad, Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, Karaj, Ahvaz, Qom and Kermanshah.
This plan is also expected to save 99 ml a year of gasoil and 415 mcm of gas while greenhouse gas emissions will be cut by 2.35 tons a year.
