Gov’t Serious on Economy

TEHRAN Oct 25 (Shana)--Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has said that his administration is making plans for economic prosperity, regardless of the outcome of Tehran’s nuclear talks with world powers.

“The government is not looking at the result of talks to lead the country out of stagnation and bring about prosperity in the country,” he said.

Rouhani added that his administration drove the country out of stagnation although it is still under sanctions.

The president said Iran will see positive economic growth this year, adding that it has to promote its relations with world countries.

Data released by Central Bank of Iran in September show that the economy expanded 4.6 percent in the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2014).

Iran’s economic growth rate turned positive after the country experienced months of stagflation, suffering negative economic growth combined with rising inflation rate.

New projections released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its World Economic Outlook predicted that Iran will grow 1.5 percent this year, followed by 2.3 percent in 2015.

The Washington-based IMF also projected average inflation rate of 23 percent this year and 22 percent in 2015.

In the last Persian calendar year (ended March 20, 2014), Iran’s economy shrank -1.9 percent.
