NIGC Going Ahead with Sistan Gas Project

TEHRAN Oct 28 (Shana)--The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) plans to hold a tender next month in order to choose a contractor for expanding gas supply services to Sistan and Balouchestan Province.

NIGC’s managing director Hamidreza Araqi made the remarks adding gas supply to the province will take place based on the current year’s budget legislation.

He continued gas supply project includes laying a pipeline stretching from Iranshahr to Zahedan and Iranshahr to Chabahar cities.

According to Araqi, gas supply to Sistan and Balouchestan will enable Petroleum Ministry to halt delivery of 1.5 billion dollars of oil products to power plants of the province annually.

“Iranshahr, Zahedan and Chabahar power plants consume two billion dollars of oil products as fuel each year and gas supply to the province can save this huge amount of oil products”, Araqi told Shana.

Council of Economy yesterday agreed with implementation of a plan which will provide gas to 285 thousand households in rural areas and cities of Sistan and Balouchestan province as well as feeding gas needs of power plants and industrial units of the province. The council has allocated 1.4 billion dollars to implementation of the project.
