Electricity Exports Not Economical, MP

TEHRAN Oct 28 (Shana)--The country can make more revenues from exporting fossil energies in comparison to electricity exports it generates from cheap fossil fuel.

The member of Economic Commission of Parliament, Mohammad Reza Pourebrahimi, expressed dissatisfaction with electricity exports, stating if the country exports the volume of fossil fuel it uses for generating electricity it will be able to import twice the volume of electricity it generates at home.

He added low level of efficiency in Iran’s power plants is one of the reasons lying behind the high cost of generating electricity at home.

He also noted that investment in renewable energies with the goal of generating electricity is neither economical nor competitive.

The MP said that power plants are expected to move toward boosting efficiency because electricity exports should not be based on generating it from cheap fossil fuel.
