Many Elements behind Pollution

TEHRAN Oct 29 (Shana)--It would be unfair to ignore improvement in the quality of Tehran’s air, advisor to head of Department of Environment (DOE), Esmail Kahrom said.

Responding to the recent wave of criticism against pollution in Tehran, he said various elements lie behind pollution in Tehran, not just the quality of gasoline.

“It’s undeniable that standard gasoline plays a great role in lessening pollution in Tehran but it is not the sole pollutant source
  the air”, he said.

He continued the government has improved the quality of gasoline being distributed in the capital, but it does not mean we should sit idle and do nothing else. He noted that there is already a plan for reducing pollution under its terms different bodies and organizations should take necessary initiatives for lessening pollution.

Cold season and temperature inversion, dust, particles released from construction work in the city, emissions from old cars, underdeveloped public transportation, too many cars in the streets, drought, lack of enough rain and wind due to special location of Tehran are among the other elements lie behind air pollution in Tehran.
