Iran to Boost Power Generation by 1,020 MW

TEHRAN Nov 11 (Shana)--Iran’s Energy Ministry is to increase electricity generation by 1,020 megawatts by the end of the calendar year in March, a senior official said.

Majid Salehi, managing-director of Iran Power Development Organization, said 2,500 MW of electricity is expected to have been generated by next calendar year.

He said that the 1,020 MW is to be generated by eight power plants, adding that the private sector has been given permission to build power plants.

Iran operates thermal, gas-fired, atomic, diesel-fuelled and combined cycle power plants among others.

Iran also exchanges electricity with Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, ,Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Afghanistan.
