14 MW of Solar Power Produced

TEHRAN Nov 17 (Shana)--Iran has generated 14 megawatts of electricity by conversion of sunlight into electricity since last calendar year, secretary of renewable energies at science and technology department of presidency Yousef Armoudli said.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a photovoltaic power plant in science and technology building of the presidency, Amoudli said the department had given necessary permissions to the private sector to produce 1.000 megawatts of solar power but the sector has managed to invest in generating just half of it due to problems related to getting loan from banks.

According to the official, district electricity distribution companies and Ministry of Power have installed 14 megawatts of solar panels in Tehran.

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaic, or indirectly using concentrated solar power. Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.
