90 Thousand Tons of Sulfur Exported

TEHRAN Nov 24 (Shana)--Iran’s Commercial Gas Company exports 90 thousand tons of sulfur each month.

Esmail Ghasemi, manager of marketing at Iran’s Commercial Gas Company made the remarks, adding China, Latin America, India and Africa are the main destinations of exports.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is the third largest producer of sulfur in the Middle East after Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He said sulfur is mainly used for production of sulfuric acid which is a highly corrosive strong mineral acid.

Ghasemi said the price of sulfuric acid in the world markets depends on other factors like the price of corns, agricultural policies and payment of subsides while the price of sulfur depends on the price of oil and gas in the markets.  

According to the official, the company plans to more toward long term contracts and boosting security of supply.
Iran’s annual sulfur output is estimated at 2 million tons.
