“Many countries like China, Japan, US, Russia, Europeans and Africans depend on coal for their electricity, but in Iran, we have not focused on coal as a fossil fuel due to the abundance of natural gas,” Mostafa Ali Rabbani said.
He said Iran has decided to include coal into its energy mix as fossil fuels are experiencing a price hike and their exports are facilitated.
Rabbani said Iran started building its first coal-fired power plant in Tabas in the south of the country.
He said more than one billion tons of thermal coal is available in Tabas.
