South Pars Phase 16 Platform Operational

TEHRAN Nov 25 (Shana)--South Pars gas field phase 16 platform as the nearest platform to Iran's maritime border with Qatar in the Persian Gulf waters became operational.

The operator of Phase 16, Reza Forouzesh made the remarks today adding flares of phases 15&16’s platforms are now burning.

Phases 15&16 have made progress physically by 95 percent, Forouzesh said, adding these phases will deliver 40 mcm of sweet gas to the gas grid of the country following launching their platforms and gas treatment facilities before the beginning of winter.

He continued more than 5 billion dollars had been invested in launching the two phases estimating the cost will be returned in a one and a half year period thanks to the daily revenue of 20 million dollars from the phases.

According to Forouzesh, the last processing unit of South Pars gas field phases 15&16 will come online next week which would help to maximization of gas processing capacity of the phases.

He noted that those units of gas treatment plants of phases 15&16 which are related to removing ethane and sulfur will also come online in the next two months and will contribute to meeting part of feedstock needs of petrochemical plants located in the area.

An Iranian consortium has been in charge of developing phases 15&16 since 2006. After current administration took office in August last year, Petroleum Ministry prioritized development of the phases 15&16.
