$2b Earmarked for Water Sector

TEHRAN Dec 30 (Shana)--Head of presidential office Mohammad Nahavandian has said the National Development Fund of Iran (NDFI) will be tapped for allocation of $2 billion for development of the water sector.

Speaking at the second festival showcasing capabilities in water and wastewater sectors, Nahavandian said: "Fortunately a new chapter has been opened in focusing on the water sector and a new vision is emerging in relation to taking into account the importance of water resources."

“A very good opportunity has been provided for putting an end to a historical and geographical problems in the country through an all-out movement and giving priority to water resources”, he said.

He continued: "We have not paid enough attention to water resources in the borders", adding the country should deploy better solutions for management of water supply and the recent decision to allocated $2 billion to the sector is a right step in the path to water management."

While we should have a national and regional look at water resources, the country’s view in recent years has been locally and the main reason behind many problems in the sector, he said.

Referring to the possibility of transferring water from seas, he said, this profoundly challenging option with its political and economic aspects has been studied seriously.
