Energy Ministry to Trade Electricity

TEHRAN Jan 07 (Shana)--Ministry of Energy is working out mechanisms for the trading of electricity in Iran Energy Exchange, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said.

“Energy Ministry is seeking to work out mechanisms so that major consumers would get their required electricity through Iran Energy Exchange,” the minister said.

He added that leading electricity consumers would no longer have to buy electricity from national grid directly.

Chitchian said that would bring about a competitive atmosphere in electricity generation and consumption.

Iran’s annual electricity consumption crosses 220 billion kilowatts/hour.
