Gas Delivery to Bidboland Gas Refinery Up

TEHRAN Jan 20(Shana)--Gas delivery to Bidboland gas refinery rose by 16 percent over the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year as of March 21 2014, the manager of 1st Gas Transfer District Abdolhosain Kotkli said.

He said: "Gas delivery to Bidboland gas refinery stood at 6.288 billion cubic meters during the first 9 months of current Iranian calendar year, up 16 percent against similar period last year with 5.4 billion cubic meters."

Koktali said the company has conducted pigging operations in 795 kilometers and finding leakage operations in 2,200 kilometers of pipelines during the mentioned period this year while the figures stood respectively at 575 kilometers and 2.000 kilometers last year.

Pigging in the context of pipelines refers to the practice of using devices known as "pigs" to perform various maintenance operations on a pipeline. This is done without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline.

These operations include but are not limited to cleaning and inspecting the pipeline.

This is accomplished by inserting the pig into a 'pig launcher' an oversized section in the pipeline, reducing to the normal diameter. The launcher / launching station is then closed and the pressure-driven flow of the product in the pipeline is used to push it along down the pipe until it reaches the receiving trap – the 'pig catcher' (or receiving station).
