Gas Delivery Hits 22.5 bcm

TEHRAN Jan 24(Shana)--Gas Transfer District 1 delivered 22.544 billion cubic meters of gas over the first 9 months of current Iranian calendar year, since March 21 2014.

Director of the Gas Transfer District 1, Abdolhosain Kotki, said the volume of gas delivery through IGAT-1 rose by 316 percent during the first 9 months of the current year in comparison to the similar period last year hitting 5.431 billion cubic meters.

Kotki said gas delivery to Bidboland gas refinery stood at 6.288 billion cubic meters during the first 9 months of the year, up by 16 percent against the similar period last year.

He further noted that the company has conducted pigging and finding leakage operations respectively in 795 kilometers and 2,200 kilometers of pipelines during the mentioned period this year while the figures stood respectively at 575  kilometers and 2.000  kilometers last year.

Pigging in the context of pipelines refers to the practice of using devices known as "pigs" to perform various maintenance operations on a pipeline. This is done without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline.

These operations include but are not limited to cleaning and inspecting the pipeline. This is accomplished by inserting the pig into a 'pig launcher' an oversized section in the pipeline, reducing to the normal diameter. The launcher / launching station is then closed and the pressure-driven flow of the product in the pipeline is used to push it along down the pipe until it reaches the receiving trap – the 'pig catcher' (or receiving station.)
