Iran Gas Share of South Pars Falling

TEHRAN Jan 31(Shana)--A senior drilling official involved in South Pars gas field development has said that Iran’s share of the gas in this giant reservoir has declined.

Mahmoud Javadian, drilling manager of Petro Pars, said Phase 12 of South Pars was estimated to hold 38 tcf of gas, but new data obtained from appraisal wells, put the figure at 19 tcf.

Qatar shares South Pars gas field with Iran.

“Had the development of the South Pars gas field been prioritized before the toughening of international sanctions, we would not have faced the current conditions,” said Javadian.

He said that Iran did not pay enough attention to the project and it lost time. He said that Iran has had to spend $7-$8 billion in exploration overlay in recent years due to the sanctions.
