Private Sector Owns Half of Iran Thermal Power Plants

TEHRAN Feb 10(Shana)--The private sector runs more than 50 percent of thermal power plants in Iran, Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian said.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a number of power projects in Kerman Province, Chitchian said that development of power industry is one of the main indicators of the country’s progress.

“On the one hand, we are facing lower oil exports due to sanctions and restrictions related to purchasing necessary equipment and technology and falling oil prices, on the other hand. But, none of these could force us to give in but on the contrary they will persuade us to intensify our efforts in order to boost efficiency and effectiveness”, He said.

Ministry of Energy is very serious in lessening power wastes to below 10 percent, he said, noting if power waste comes down to around 5 percent the country no longer needs to make investment in production, transfer and distribution of electricity.
