Hybrid Vehicles Positive for Environment

TEHRAN Feb 22(Shana)--Hybrid and electric vehicles arrival to transportation fleet of the country will have a positive impact not only on environment but on reducing energy consumption.

In statements to Shana, a transport expert Arash Ghorbani welcomed a decision made for making hybrid and electric vehicles at home and invited municipalities of mega cities to take part in manufacturing the cars.

He added hybrid and electric cars are increasingly entering transportation fleet of developed countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks he said that air pollution costs the country 10 billion dollars annually causing death of 227 people monthly on average.

Around 88 percent of air pollution in large cities is the result of fossil fuel burnt by motorists and that is why deploying hybrid and electrical cars is inevitable to improve the quality of air and lessening pollution, the expert said.

According to him, fuel efficiency and being economic are the most important factors in the world car market, adding the government has reduced import tariffs of hybrid cars to zero for the first time which could encourage importation of hybrid vehicles for using as taxi and bus in mega cities.

A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that uses two or more distinct power sources to move vehicle. The term most commonly refers to hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), which combine an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors. However, other mechanisms to capture and use energy may also be included.
