Geomechanics Conference to Be Held

TEHRAN March 02(Shana)--The first national conference on geomechanics will be held on May 22 2015 with the goal of getting familiar with the national potentials and updated technologies.

The chairman of the Association of the First National conference on Geomechanics Ahmad Ramezanzadeh said the conference is going to be held with the support from presidential office’s department of science and technology and close cooperation with Shahrood University and Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI).

Ramezanzadeh said that geomechanics and its high contribution to generating value added is a newly launched approach in the country and holding the conference will lay the groundwork for experts and research and scientific centers to present their capabilities and take an essential step in the direction of offering services with higher level of value added.

He continued four expertise panels and training workshops will also be held on the sidelines of the conference with the presence of international experts.

According to him, growing consumption of hydrocarbon resources including crude oil as well as oil and gas derivatives have made paying attention to upstream sector developments necessary because ignoring new scientific and technological progresses and continuation of reliance on old approaches will damage the country.

It is believed that without a strategy for avoiding or minimizing potential geomechanical problems, projects may cost millions more than budgeted. Today, most operators consider geomechanics analysis and planning a necessary strategic component of exploration and field development activities. Identifying potential issues, planning for, and managing them saves time and improves safety at the well site.

Geomechanical factors affect every part of the life cycle of an oil and gas reservoir. It is important to assess and manage these, from predicting drilling risks in the first well to maximizing recovery from mature assets.
