Oil Key in National Power

TEHRAN March 03(Shana)--Oil is a key element of power, and its lack could be threatening not only for national security of many countries but also for the global security.

The lecturer of Petroleum University of Technology Mohammad Javad Asemipour made the remarks while giving a speech at the 2nd National Iranian Drilling Industry Congress today, adding oil has created a golden opportunity for development in Iran.

He said that the theory of an economy free from oil which some economists adhere to is non-scientific and non-realistic.

Stating that proper management of oil revenues is very important for oil-rich countries, Asemipour said based on the latest predictions, oil will make up more than 65 percent of energy consumption in the world in 2030. He rejected the viewpoint that believes world is moving toward lessening reliance on oil.

Talking about whether oil is an advantage or disadvantage for Iran’s economy, he noted there is no doubt that without hydrocarbon reserves the country had no way but to spend a great part of its resources for importation of the commodity and that is why having access to oil resources is an advantage for the country.

Pointing to the importance of the place of oil in national security, he said, for instance, the U.S has spent too much money in production of shale oil in order to enhance its energy security as well as national security.

Highlighting the importance of accelerating development of oil and gas reserves he said upstream sector and drilling industry are the key elements for boosting production capacity which in turn makes integrated management of reservoirs necessary.
