Phase 12 Specifications

TEHRAN March 15(Shana)--South Pars gas field phase 12 as the largest industrial project of the country so far is scheduled to be inaugurated on Thursday. Here are some useful points regarding phase 12 and its specifications:

-Phase 12 is now complete after 8 years of relentless efforts under tough sanctions against Iran’s oil industry.

-Phase 12 construction has come to close by mere reliance on domestic capabilities.

-The phase accounts for providing 10 percent of total gas consumption of the country.

-The phase’s gas output equals to three standard phases. Daily production of 3 bcm of gas, 120 thousand barrels of gas condensate and 750 tons of granulated solid sulfur are the main specifications of the phase.

-It is forecast all investments made in the project will be returned in less than a three year period. Based on economic experts’ evaluations, the phase will raise gross domestic production (GDP) of the country by 3 percent.

-Total cost of development of phase 12 hit 7.3 billion dollars while its earnings have reached 1.6 billion dollars over the past year.

-Calculating each cubic meters of gas at 13 cents and each barrel of gas condensate 60 dollars, daily revenues of the phase are estimated at 17 million dollars.

-Phase 12 platforms have provided 67 percent of gas being processed by onshore installations of the phase while the remaining part is taken from phases 6,7 and 8 of the South Pars gas field.

-Realizing gas extraction from phase 12 is the result of proper management of Iran’s Minister of Petroleum Bijan Namdar Zanganeh who decided to prioritize to development of a number of phases of the giant gas field instead of simultaneous development of all phases which was prevailing before his comeback to the ministry.

-As one of the largest gas projects in the Middle East, 45 wells have been drilled in the phase at a cost of 2 billion dollars.

-South Pars gas field is located in the Persian Gulf. It is the world's largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the field holds an estimated 1,800 trillion cubic feet (51 trillion cubic meters) of in-situ natural gas and some 50 billion barrels (7.9 billion cubic meters) of natural gas condensates.

-The gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers (South Pars) is in Iranian territorial waters and 6,000 square kilometers is in Qatari territorial waters
