No Deaths as Singapore Vessel Hits South Pars Jacket

TEHRAN March 29(Shana)--A Singaporean oil tanker struck the jacket of Phase 13 of South Pars gas field, but there were no reports of fatalities.

“No gas leak was seen in the jacket of this phase. Moreover, there were no fatalities,” Ali-Akbar Shabanpour, managing-director of Pars Oil and Gas Company, said.

He said that the incident happened last Thursday, adding that experts are investigating for any possible leaks.

Shabanpour blamed the incident on the “recklessness of the captain and the crew” of the Singaporean tanker which he said was equipped with “highly sophisticated radar and navigation system.”

Phase 13 of the giant offshore South Pars gas field is being developed to produce 50 mcm/d of gas, 80,000 b/d of gas condensate, 400 tons a day of sulfur, one million tons a year of ethane and 1.1 million tons a year of liquefied gas.
