NIGC Extends Gas Supply to New Rural Areas

TEHRAN April 19(Shana)--Petroleum Ministry plans to extend gas supply to 880 thousand households in rural areas this year which will enable the ministry to save as much as 2.5 billion dollars annually.

Managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Hamidreza Araqi said right now 2.4 million households lack access to gas supply, adding NIGC will extend gas supply to these households over a three-year period by spending 4.7 billion dollars.

He further said that providing gas services to the rural population will make distribution of 3 billion liters of kerosene and 1.5 million liters of LPG unnecessary annually which is a good contribution to Petroleum Ministry’s finances.

According to NIGC’s chief executive, implementation of the project has been approved by Council of Economy and necessary funds for investment will be provided by savings in liquid fuel consumption as well as private sector funds.

According to Araqi, laying out pipeline and setting up CNG stations will be the two main ways for supplying gas to rural areas.
