Launching Hamedan gas pressure station, which facilitates gas transfer to northwest of Iran, was the other achievement of District-7 last year. By launching Hamedan gas pressure station the pipeline is capable of transfering more than 55 mcm of gas per day now.
Using pigs for cleaning 1.750 km of pipelines and launching a new 52 km gas pipeline were the other main operations of District-7 last year.
Pigging is used in oil and gas pipelines to clean the pipes. There are also 'smart pigs' used to inspect pipelines for the purpose of preventing leaks that can be explosive and dangerous to the environment. They usually do not interrupt production, though some product can be lost when the pig is extracted.
Iran’s gas production capacity rose around 100 mcm/d last year. It is expected gas production to go up another 100 mcm per day at the end of this year by developing new phases of South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf waters.
