Visiting Sarajeh gas storage facility, ICOFC’s chief said Serajeh facility, as the first gas storage facility in the Middle East and OPEC, should take more gas during summer and raise its storage capacity for injection to gas grid in winter when gas consumption peaks.
Located 40 km southeast of Qom, Serajeh gas storage facility is able to store as much as 1.5 bcm of gas. This volume is planned to increase to 3.3 bcm after completion of the second phase of its development.
Gas storage dates back to 1915. There are more than 600 gas storage facilities across the world with storage capacity of 331 bcm. The U.S owns 385 gas storage facility and their storage capacity stand at 121 bcm, according to a report by ICOFC’s public relations department.
