Iran, Poland Enhancing Environmental Cooperation

TEHRAN May 06(Shana)--Poland is ready to transfer green technology to Iran, Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Katarzyna Kacperczyk said on Tuesday in a meeting with Iran’s head of Department of Environment (DOE) Masoumeh Ebtekar.

Ebtekar said that during the meeting the two sides held talks about enhancing bilateral relations in environmental issues, adding the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes boosting cooperation with the European country.

"We are interested in using Poland’s experiences in environmental issues," DOE’s head said.

According to Ebtekar, climate change, drought, lesser amount of rainfall and falling level of water in wetlands are among the main environmental challenges of the country that have resulted in formation of dust storms in the region.

She noted that the bulk of dust storm that sweeps Iran sometimes originates from other countries in the region including Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Saudi Arabia, noting regional cooperation is a key issue to overcome the problem.

During the meeting Katarzyna Kacperczyk said she had a very different imagination about Iran before her visit, adding, “I found Iran a very beautiful country”.

The Polish official expressed readiness of her country for boosting bilateral relations in environmental issues as well as transfer of technology.
