Czech, Iran Eye Expansion of Energy Ties

TEHRAN May 06(Shana)--Chargé d'Affaires of the Czech Embassy in Tehran Peter Stephen visited Iran’s deputy speaker of Parliament Mohammadhassan Aboutorabifard on Tuesday to hold talks on expanding bilateral relations.

During the meeting Aboutorabifard expressed Iran’s readiness for boosting cooperation with the European country in areas like modern technologies, and oil and gas industry.

Referring to longstanding relations between the two countries, Iran’s deputy speaker of parliament said: "The background of old relations provides a good atmosphere for promoting political, economic, cultural and scientific relations between the two countries."

He continued: "Consolidating and expanding relations with EU countries including Czech Republic is among the Islamic Republic of Iran’s priorities."

In another development, head of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi held talks with a Norwegian parliamentary delegation headed by Anniken Huitfeldt, chair of Norwegian Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense.

During the meeting Huitfeldt expressed her country’s readiness for expanding economic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

Anniken Huitfeldt, heading a parliamentary delegation of eight officials, arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for a 2-day visit.

Huitfeldt expressed satisfaction with her visit to Iran, noting Norway Parliament supports expanding relations with Iran as an important country in the Middle East.

She also expressed hope preliminary agreement between Iran and 5+1 leads to a final deal so that could put an end to more than a decade of disagreement between West and Iran.

Boroujerdi, for his part, said that frequent visits and communications between officials of the two countries will pave the way for growing understanding of capabilities and capacities for expanding cooperation between Iran and Norway.
