Investment in Petrochemicals Necessary, MP

TEHRAN May 20(Shana)--Petrochemical projects deserve more investment because the sector plays an important role in creating jobs and generating value-added, a parliamentarian said.

Public relations department of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) quoted Saeed Haidari Tayyeb as saying long delays in completion of partly-finished petrochemical projects are against the long-term economic interests of the country adding more money should be channeled to partly-finished projects.

The member of Energy Committee of Parliament noted that investment in petrochemical sector will result in creating jobs and production of finished goods with relatively higher value in comparison with exporting crude oil.

Completion of value chain and realization of value-added in oil, gas, petrochemical and refining is the backbone of Economy of Resistance policies, he said adding developing petrochemical sector will contribute to achieving these goals.

He further said that boosting non-oil export revenues and development of refining and petrochemical industries will help the country to reduce its dependency on oil revenues.
