Corrosion prevention raising GNP by 5 percent

TEHRAN May 24(Shana)--Enforcement of strategic document of corrosion in oil industry could raise gross national production (GNP) by five percent, deputy minister of petroleum for engineering Emad Hosaini said.

Speaking on the sidelines of a graduation ceremony at Petroleum University of Technology in Abadan, Hosaini said the document has been drawn to prevent wasting assets and raising gross national production, adding the four main subsidiaries of Petroleum Ministry have been informed about the document.   

He further noted with the goal of enforcement of the document executive committees had been set up at 4 subsidiaries of Petroleum Ministry while the Central Council is located at engineering department of the ministry.

Preserving physical assets of oil industry and reducing negative effects of corrosion, lowering financial damages and protecting environment are the main targets of preparing the document, he told Shana.

According to the deputy minister of petroleum, widespread studies related to corrosion and its negative impact on industries have convinced developed countries to conduct numerous studies on the issue which has led to drafting some strategies, legislations, guidelines and effective methods for management and prevention of corrosion.

As Iran’s oil, gas and petrochemical industries are located in areas prone to corrosion, management of the phenomenon and its negative impacts is very important for the country, he said.
