More Reliance on Universities

TEHRAN May 26(Shana)--Development of technologies regarding expansion of refining and petrochemical industries of the country is to be laid on universities and academic centers, said senior official with the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum.

Mohammad Reza Moghaddam, deputy minister of research and technology, said Tuesday that this is besides the development of upstream petroleum projects of the country that have been laid in the hands of universities for enhancement of recovery from oil and gas reserves.

Addressing a scholarly conference on the latest development on nano and micro engineered membrane technology in Iran, Moqaddam said membrane technology plays a pivotal role in the refining procedures and efforts must be made to commercialize such technologies in the country.

Despite huge investments by the petroleum industry in the field, "we are still in the beginning stages of developing such technologies which requires us to spare no efforts and move faster in this regard," said the official.

Iranian Petroleum Ministry relies on universities for enhancing production from oil and gas reservoirs, boosting the related technologies and optimizing fuel consumption and it is planning to commission universities to develop technologies than can book petrochemical and refining industries, he added.

Iran has tasked universities to develop technologies for the enhancement of recovery from 52 oil reserves across the country, said Moqaddam.
