Oman Gas Deal Nearly Finalized

TEHRAN July 29(Shana)--The managing-director of National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC) has announced the selection of consultant for a pipeline to be stretched from Iran to Oman to carry gas.

“Selection of Iranian consultant to conduct [feasibility] studies on Iran-Oman gas pipeline has been finalized and legal procedures are under way for awarding the project,” Ali-Reza Kameli said.

He said an Omani delegation is in Tehran for finalizing a deal for the export of Iranian natural gas to the Perisn Gulf Arab state.

He said the 400-kilometer pipeline, stretching from Mubarak Mountain to Sohar Port, is defined in two onshore and offshore sections.

Kameli said studies on both onshore and offshore sections of the pipeline are to be conducted simultaneously to avoid any disruption in the implementation of the project.

Iran agreed in 2013 to export 28 mcm/d of gas to Oman through a subsea pipeline for 15 years.

Kameli further underlined the new investment opportunities created in Iran after the July 14 nuclear deal, saying many countries have lined up to invest in Iran's gas industry or are seriously seeking to buy gas from Iran.

"Although Europe's gas market cannot be ignored, it is a second priority for Iran," said the top gas official, adding that exporting gas to Persian Gulf states is Iran's number-one priority.
