Iran Volunteers for JCPOA Commitments

TEHRAN August 25(Shana)--Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the Islamic Republic of Iran volunteers to abide by all the commitments of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the country has never sought a nuclear weapon in its programs.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will abide by all voluntary commitments entailed in the JCPOA because our firm decision has been not to seek [nuclear] weapons and our [nuclear facilities] remain under supervision of the [International Atomic Energy] Agency (IAEA),” Rouhani told British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond in Tehran on Monday.

He downplayed recent remarks by some American officials regarding the re-imposition of sanctions on Tehran if the nuclear standoff is not resolved, saying they are merely whimsical statements about Iran's nuclear program.

“These sardonic remarks are indiscreet slogans and jokes that would harm the process of confidence-building,” Rouhani said.

He said threats of military action and the sanctions snapback against Tehran will undermine confidence-building efforts by Iran and six world powers.

Rouhani's remarks came in reaction to US officials’ repeated threats of action against Iran in case the Islamic Republic’s nuclear standoff is not resolved within the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which Iran clinched in Vienna on July 14.

He said "a move towards creation of better circumstances in regional and international relations" shall be set off as an aftermath of Iran’s nuclear agreement with the world powers.
