Iran Eyes Forming GTL JV with S. Africa

TEHRAN August 31(Shana)—Deputy managing director of Iran's National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has indicated Iran's willingness to set up joint ventures with foreign countries including south Africa for developing gas to liquids (GTL) plants in Iran.

Following a meeting with South Africa's Energy Department Deputy Director-General Tseliso Maqubela here in Tehran, Mohammad Hassan Peyvandi told Shana, "Iran welcomes joint ventures with foreign countries like South Africa in developing GTL units." 

He said S. Africa's state GTL output stands at 45,000b/d, adding the country can enjoy close cooperation with Tehran for developing GTL units which can also be used for processing certain petrochemicals.

Peyvandi added that the South African government has indicated its interest to step in Iran's GTL industry by investing in it and transferring the related technologies. 

In some countries, he siad, GTL plants process petrochemical products which is favored by Iran as well.
