Investment in Energy Industry Tops Iran Economic Agenda: Speaker

TEHRAN, Sept. 2 (Shana) – Iran has ranked investment in oil, gas, and petrochemical industries among its priorities in economic cooperation activities, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said.

"Iran has vast resources of oil and gas, and cooperation in gas can be useful for Europe’s energy security as well,” he told French deputy speaker Laurence Dumont in a meeting on the sidelines of the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, sponsored by the Geneva-based Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The nuclear deal reached between Iran and G5+1 group of world powers can be considered positive despite certain shortcomings, he added, saying that the Parliament is expected to pass its comment about the deal which is formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In the meeting, the French lawmaker said the deal is an opportunity for better relations between Iran and the European Union as well as negotiations areas of cooperation.
Dumont welcomed promotion of bilateral parliamentary ties with Iran and said, “Increased ties can facilitate relations between private sectors in the two countries.”
