Chinese, European Firms Eye Gas Footing in Iran: NIGC Chief

TEHRAN, Nov. 16 (Shana) – Head of the National Iranian Gas Company said several Chinese and European companies are in talks with NIGC to cement gas deals with the company.

Hamid-Reza Araqi told Shana that the Chinese firms are negotiating BOT and BOO gas delivery projects in Iran, offering engineering and technical services.

Araqi, who is also deputy petroleum minister in gas affairs, said along with China, European firms are also in talks with NIGC for winning shares of Iran's $20bn gas market.

"The companies are awaiting implementation of JCPOA and removal of sanctions [on Tehran]," said the official.

He said Iran's gas sector can absorb over 20 billion dollars of investments by Iranian and foreign financiers, saying, "So far, numerous investment packages in a range of fields including gas refining, storage, measuring, technical and engineering services are defined and construction of the 9th and 11th IGATs are considered [by NIGC]."

He said transfer of technologies and capital to Iran's gas sector are NIGC's top priorities in talks with foreign companies.

"For the time being, there are no purchasing agendas considered by NIGC," he added.
