Zangeneh Upbeat Over GECF Future, Iran’s Bilateral Gas Ties

TEHRAN, Nov. 23 (Shana) – Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is developing as a serious body for coordinating the member states’ policies in the blue fuel’s market.

“GECF is maturing gradually and is moving in the right direction,” he told reporters following convention of the Third Summit Meeting of GECF in Tehran on Monday.

He said the forum’s member states have shown that “despite of differences, they can cooperate to achieve their joint interests”.

The Iranian minister also said gas exporters have apprehensions regarding losing of long-term contracts as the market is rapidly moving in the direction of crude oil where prices are set by the market.

Saying that it was early for GECF to play a role in pricing, he added that the forum has taken proper measures in launching a research center, transfer of technology and investment cooperation.

To a question, he said, Iran and Oman discussed sale and export of LNG to Oman via pipeline on the sidelines of the summit.

To another query, Zangeneh said, Iran and Russia agreed on gas swap and manufacturing of equipment during the meeting between the two countries’ ministers.

“The Russian side expressed interest in Iran Petroleum Contract conference and we invited them to the even next week in Tehran,” he said.
