UAE Ready for Cooperation with GECF: Official

TEHRAN, Nov. 24 (Shana) - The United Arab Emirate (UAE) said it is prepared to cooperate with the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) to enhance use of natural gas as a clean fuel, said Matar Al-Neyadi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy.

Addressing the Third GECF Summit in Tehran, Al-Neyadi said that UAE has paid growing attention to boosting gas consumption as a clean fuel, expressing readiness of his country for enhancing cooperation with other countries in the gas industry.

“Ongoing meeting of heads of state and government of GECF members can result in great developments in production, export and transfer of natural gas”, he said.

UAE encourages its citizens to use natural gas increasingly as fuel, the official added, because it helps protection of environment.

Al-Neyadi also said that UAE encourages using natural gas for transportation so that at present 35 percent of its vehicles are gas-burning vehicles.

GECF is the intergovernmental forum of the world’s leading gas producers that provides a framework for exchange of experience, views, information and data, as well as coordination in gas related developments among member countries.

It consists of 19 main and observer members with its permanent secretariat based in Doha, Qatar.

Russia, Iran, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, and the United Arab Emirates, are main members of the gas exporting body. Observer countries are the Netherlands, Iraq, Oman, Azerbaijan, Peru, Kazakhstan and Norway.
