Iraq oil output to hit 6 mb/d by 2020

TEHRAN, Nov. 24 (Shana) - Iraq is planning to produce up to 6 million barrels of oil per day by 2020, Oil Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi said.

Speaking to Shana correspondent on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum’s (GECF) meeting in Tehran, he said that the country’s current oil production stands at 4.3 million barrels per day.
 
He also announced that Iraq will continue upward trend of oil production in coming years.

Hailing expanding friendly relations between Tehran and Baghdad, the minister said, "Apart from sanctions, the two countries should move toward strengthening relations." 

 Abdel Mahdi and oil and gas officials from 18 member countries of GECF were in Tehran to take part in the ministerial and summit meetings of GECF which came to an end on Monday after three days of activity.

Iraq and Iran are founding members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The 12-member organization will hold its next ordinary meeting on Dec 4 in Vienna.

 Oil prices have hit their lowest level in recent years. Oil prices have plunged from more than 110 dollars in June last year to less than 40 dollars now
