OPEC Sec. Gen. Upbeat Over Tehran Gas Summit

TEHRAN, Nov. 24 (Shana) – Secretary General of the Organization of Oil Exporting Countries (OPEC) Abdalla El-Badri said the Third Summit Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum held in Tehran on Monday was a success.

“It was successful and objectives,” he told Shana reporter on the sidelines of the summit.
Addressing the summit, El-Badri praised development of the gas forum’s performance over the last decade adding, “Now the time is ripe for boosting cooperation and coordination between OPEC and GECF as two energy organizations.”  

Referring to the growing world population, the OPEC secretary general said it was expected that demand for energy will rise in coming decades.  

OPEC will hold its next ministerial meeting on December 4 in Vienna. 

The 3rd GECF Summit wrapped up on Monday night issuing the Tehran Declaration as well as a message to the UN climate change conference which is going to be held next week in Paris.  

GECF is the intergovernmental forum of the world’s leading gas producers that provides a framework for exchange of experience, views, information and data, as well as coordination in gas related developments among member countries.

It consists of 19 main and observer members with its permanent secretariat based in Doha, Qatar. 

Russia, Iran, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, and the United Arab Emirates, are main members of the gas exporting body. Observer countries are the Netherlands, Iraq, Oman, Azerbaijan, Peru, Kazakhstan and Norway.
