“The EU strategy is to diversify its energy sources and Iran can play an important role in this regard,” Mitov told a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad –Javad Zarif here on Monday.
“Iran is not only an important country in the region, but it also has a constructive role in the settlement of international problems,” he said,
The Bulgarian minister also said that enhanced ties between Tehran and Sofia can contribute to Iran’s relations with the European Union. “Bulgaria can act as Iran’s gateway to Europe."
He expressed hope that following removal of anti-Iran sanctions, bilateral relations will increase to pre-sanctions level.
Mitov also welcomed Iran’s position on the Syrian crisis and urged other countries to concentrate on eradication of the terrorist group Daesh.
“I am confident that we have both opportunities and challenges before us,” he said, “However, the conditions are totally different now. There are challenges such as Daesh and further cooperation will be crucial to settle the problems,”
