In an interview with Shana, Mohammad-Hossein Adeli warned over high gas consumption rate in Iran which he said equals that of China with a population of above one billion people, saying that it could be threat to Iran’s gas exports.
“Iran has to gradually secure its share in the global gas markets relative to its resources and domestic consumption,” he added.
Saying that the population of gas subscribers in Iran is a rare phenomena, Adeli cautioned that energy wastage in Iran is too high and that Iran and Saudi Arabia are running neck-to-neck in waste of energy.
Based on experience and evidence, the GECF secretary general noted, gas has been used as a political means similar to oil.
Adeli also told a local meeting on Iran’s gas outlook on Wednesday that natural gas can not only compensate the plummeting oil crude oil prices in Iran’s economy but it can also go beyond and introduce the Islamic Republic as a major source of supporting global development resources.
