Iran Indigenizes Key Catalyst for Euro-5 Petrol

TEHRAN, Feb. 07 (Shana) -- Iran has successfully indigenized a highly strategic catalyst for production of high quality petrol at Isfahan Refinery.

According to Iran's National Petrochemical Company (NPC), the catalyst has been developed domestically in pursuit of the principles of the economy of resistance.

Described by the Department of Environment (DOE) as the "Green Technology", the catalyst is used to produce Euro-5 gasoline.

During a ceremony to open a unit for mass production of the item at Isfahan Refinery, Head of DOE Masoumeh Ebtekar said opening of such units will result in protection of the environment in the country.

Managing Director of the Refinery Lotfali Chavoshi said the catalyst has been used for the past 5 months and was previously only announced to be good for production of euro-4 gasoline, but now after numerous trials and tests, the catalyst has proved it can be used for production of euro-5 gasoline.

Production of the catalyst takes one of the most complicated technologies in the field which was previously owned by US's UOP and AXENS.

Beside Isfahan Refinery, the item is being used in a number of petrochemical plants across the country including Bandar Abbas, Borzooyeh, Boo Ali and Karoun.
