Italy Eyes Regional Oil Industry Equipment Hub in Iran: Envoy

TEHRAN, Feb. 9 (Shana) – Italian ambassador to Tehran said that President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Rome was a success adding that Italy wants to establish a regional hub of oil industry equipment through Iran’s cooperation.

“Italian firms want to have an effective presence in the oil markets of Iran and the region and to establish a kind of oil equipment hub here to gain the regional market,” Mauro Conciatori told participants of the second joint meeting of Iranian and Italian business people here on Tuesday.

“Today, some 300 economic activists representing 200 established Italian companies are present in the second meeting of the two countries’ economic activists,” he said.

“Oil, gas, construction, and agricultural industries top the agenda of negotiations of the current meeting which is a follow-up to the previous one held on November 29-30.”

The Italian envoy added that Iran has numerous trade opportunities which can be taken through cooperation with the Italian companies. 

“We are interested to be the main partner in Iran’s oil and gas industry and to secure its targets through cooperation,” the ambassador said.

Deputy Petroleum Minister for International Affairs and Commerce Amir-Hossein Zamani-Nia also said at the meeting that Iran’s objectives for participation of Italian firms in its oil industry are attraction of capital as well as transfer of technology and management knowledge.

“More important than its oil resources, Iran enjoys stability and sustainable security in the Middle East. This has prepared the conditions for investment of Italian companies in (Iran’s) oil industry he said.
