Too Much Price Fluctuations in Gas Deals

TEHRAN, Feb. 09 (Shana) -- Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said price fluctuations are very common in gas contracts and because these deals are usually long-term, such fluctuations are natural.

"Turkey filed a complaint for revising the price of the gas Iran supplies to the country; in the first complaint it managed to win a 12% discount and in the second complain it sought another 25% cut in the gas price from Iran but the arbitration court dismissed the request," said Zangeneh while addressing a press conference on Tuesday.

Referring to a recent meeting between Iranian and Turkish authorities, Zangeneh said Tehran told Ankara it would lower the price of gas provided that Turkey increases its purchase from Iran.

He further said Russia and Iran can cooperate in developing joint fields in Iran.

He said Iran enjoys many common interests with Russia in the Caspian Sea but we have no common areas.

Regarding cooperation with Saudi Arabia as a fellow member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Zangeneh said: "Iran supports any kind of talks or cooperation with other OPEC member countries including Saudi Arabia."

Regarding oil price slump, Zangeneh said certain Persian Gulf states say their crude oil oversupply is aimed at economic goals, "but their targets are by no means economic."
