Ground Ready for Realization of Tehran-Seoul MoUs: NIOC chief

TEHRAN, May 03 (Shana) -- Ground is ready for realization of Iran and South Korea cooperation documents in field of oil, Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Rokneddin Javadi said on Tuesday.

Speaking to Shana, he said that South Korea as an industrial country is thirsty for energy and its energy needs are increasing.

"South Korea is the second Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) importer and I think the ground is ready for implementation of Memorandums of Understanding signed between Tehran and Seoul," the official added.

Iran and South Korea have inked several MoUs to further expand bilateral ties between the two countries. The cooperation agreements between Tehran and Seoul were sealed on Monday morning by top-ranking official of the two sides in the presence of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani as his South Korean counterpart Park Geun-hye.

The documents, which were signed in the presence of Iranian and Korean presidents aiming to create a new momentum in relations between the two countries, include maritime transport agreement between the governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Korea, MoU on cooperation in the field of transport and infrastructure framework, cooperation in oil, natural gas, refining and petrochemicals, cooperation in the field of water resources as well as a memorandum on cooperation in the field of electrical energy and new energy industries.
