Iran Can Export Power to Europe: Minister

TEHRAN, May 30 (Shana) – There is a potentiality for exporting electricity to Europe by Iran but this goal needs a series of preliminary talks, signature of agreements and provision of the required infrastructure, before it can be materialized, the Iranian minister of energy said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a conference here in Tehran on Monday, Hamid Chitchian said Iran is currently trading electricity with 7 regional countries but is in talks with them for building new transmission lines.

He said no scheme has so far been tabled for export of power to European destinations, but Energy Charter secretary general has offered to engage in the talks in this regard.

"If the required infrastructure is provided, Iran can export electricity to Europe," he added.
