Iran Favors OPEC Quota System: Zangeneh

TEHRAN, June 02 (Shana) -- Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said Iran favors the quota system of production to be reinstated in OPEC.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Vienna to attend the 169th ordinary meeting of the member states of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on June 02, Zangeneh said Iran is currently producing more than 3.8 million barrels of oil on a daily basis and exported 2 million and 23,000 barrels per day in May.
"We try to increase our export of crude oil and condensates, and in the discussion that we have with international oil companies, greenfield and brownfield [production] will be considered and which means we want to increase the level of our production as well as exports."
He said that the OPEC production ceiling has no benefits for Iran and other OPEC producers.
“I think that the market is doing its role very well, by its nature, and if Opec adds some steps then it will accelerate. But it seems that Opec so far has not done anything,” said Mr Zanganeh late on Wednesday.
"This is our idea, and one of our main idea is to have a country quota, but I don't think that in this meeting we can reach an agreement for this matter," he said regarding reinstatement of the OPEC production ceiling that is being considered by major producers in the organization.
The official said Iran favors returning to its pre-sanctions production and export levels but, he said, it will not table any proposals in the 169th meeting.
