Kurdistan Petchem Plant to Produce 300,000 t/y of Light Polyethylene

TEHRAN, June 13 (Shana) -- Kurdistan Petrochemical Plant will be able to produce 300,000 t/y of light polyethylene after becoming operational, managing director of Kurdistan Petrochemical Complex said.

Speaking to Shana on Monday, Fereydoun Khaledzadeh referred to completion of 98 percent of the Kurdistan Petrochemical Complex and predicted start up of the project in the next two months ahead.

The complex is expected to process 300,000t/y of light polyethylene after completion and being fed by West Ethylene Pipeline, the official added.

He noted that It is being constructed by an investment of 228 million euro and 3040 billion Iranian rial.

Marziyeh Shah-Daei, a member of the board of directors at National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has said the plant is one of the highly-prioritized petrochemical projects in Iran which should come on-stream in 2016. 

The plant is one of the numerous petrochemical plants constructed along West Ethylene Pipeline. 
 
Initiated in 2002, the pipeline is to carry ethylene from Assaluyeh, south of Iran, to western provinces of Khuzestan, Lorestan, Chaharmahal Bakhtiari, Kohguiluyeh Boyer Ahmad, Kermanshah, Kurdestan, and West Azerbaijan. The second phase of West Ethylene Pipeline is close to coming on-stream, Shah-Daei said in April.

The second phase of the pipeline is 585 kilometers, stretching from Kermanshah to Mahabad. The West Ethylene Pipeline has the capacity to carry 3.5 million tons of ethylene.
