Iran has a crude export deal with Japan to supply the country with 120,000 barrels per day but the amount has seen a major rise due to rising demand in Japan during the month of May, said the official, speaking to Shana.
He said the rise in Iran's crude export to Japan comes as the country's refining capacity is reducing and has fallen from 5 mbd to 3.6 mbd and is said to continue to reduce in the future.
"Given the current circumstances, Iran can export 160,000 to 200,000 barrels per day of crude oil to Japan," he added.
Japan is considered as one of Iran's traditional oil customers whose crude imports from the Middle East in May has risen over 10% year-over-year.
The country received an average of 1.4 mbd from Saudi Arabia, its biggest suppliers, in April and imported 167,000 of the commodity from Iraq during the month.
In April, Japan imported 87.6% of its needed crude oil from Middle Easter suppliers.
