16 Rigs Operating in South Pars

TEHRAN, June 25 (Shana) -- Deputy Managing Director of the Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Farrokh Alikhani, says for the time being, 16 rigs are operating in South Pars.

Alikhani told Shana that number of rigs will lower as South Pars phases get completed.
He said rig is the symbol of development and its number grows when fields are developing. However, number of rigs should lower in tandem with completion of projects.
South Pars gas field is the biggest gas source worldwide, lying on Iran-Qatar border in the Persian Gulf. It is 9,700 square kilometers and Iran's share in the common field with Qatar is 3,700 kms.
The field has 14 trillion cubic feet of gas reserve along with 18 billion barrels of gas condensates, constituting about 7.5 percent of the world's total gas reserves and close to half of Iran's gas reserves.
