Goodbye Chloralkali!

TEHRAN, July 27 (Shana) – Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company (BIPC) on Tuesday bid farewell to its Chloralkali unit and it was out of the production cycle.

The unit operated on mercury and change of the process is on BIPC agenda.

The project to change color alkaline unit and remove mercury is defined as a three-phased project: First phase covering precise tools and pneumatic phase, mobilized by the FCS-DCS technology. It was operationaly in March 2016. 

The second phase is electrolysis supply for the membrane system as well as base engineering document supply. The know-how is now supplied by German ThyssenKrupp. The base engineering part is almost complete and the electroyzers which are the main equipment will be substitutes for the mercury cells. It will be carried to BIPC by next three months based on the schedule. 

The phase three of the project also envisions detailed engineering and supply of necessary items. Tender documents are getting prepared for the purpose and by next six months the contractor will be assigned.

Ebtekar was on a tour of Mahshahr Special Economic and Petrochemical Zone in Khouzestan Province and during her stay a contract was signed for sale of flare gas to the private sector. 

She was accompanied in her visit by such petrochemical industry figures as Shahdaie, and Managing Director of Persian Gulf Holding Company Adel Nejadsalim.

During Ebtekar stay, executive operations were launched for implementation of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company wastewater treatment center and the Chloralkali like of the Company will be out of production cycle as mercury will be filtered out and replaced by hollow fiber membrane.

Among other programs of her visit was signing a deal for establishment of Petrochemical Natural Museum Garden.
